Fabio Sarcona is based in Italy and is the owner of Creative Child Themes, who create Divi Child themes and build Divi websites.
Q: Describe your business in 1 sentence.
I design and develop websites and child theme for Divi and Extra theme.
Q: Tell us more about your business. What exactly do you do?!
My work includes:
Child Themes customisation;
White Label service;
Design and Development of Child Theme for my shop and for the various marketplaces,
Website Performance Optimization
Q: What products have you developed specifically for Divi and what might we expect in the future?
All my themes and layouts are developed specifically for Divi, in my to-do list I have a few ideas to create also themes for Extra theme, but at present the market demands are for the benefit of Divi. For the future I am working on a new project, always dedicated to the Divi but I can not say any more. It ‘s all top secret :D!
Q: What 5 words best describe you as a person?
Curious, perfectionist (sometimes too much), passionate about his work, Encourager, Stakhanovite.
Q: How long have you been a member of Elegant Themes?
Q: What are your most, and least, favorite features in Divi?
I love the possibility to create custom forms and save them in the library that make development much faster and overall I think is one of the strokes of genius of the ET team.
I also love the ability to add custom classes and ID, this is definitely allows you to extend the possibility of customization to an almost infinite level, then it is definitely in the top five of the features that I love.
Another thing I love is the possibility to optimize the layout for mobile with little effort. Until a few months ago I was forced to create custom media queries, but now everything is easier.
Something you do not like? I can not think of anything 🙂
Q: How would you like to see Divi and its community evolve in the coming months and years ahead?
I wish that the communities continue to grow with the same spirit that is there now. The spirit of sharing, mutual support, respect, authenticity and the desire to “not leave any behind.” that’s what I like of the community, even if someone asks a question of a true newbie such as: “Where do I find the options panel?” no one responds in a tone of superior people, all hold out a hand to help those in need. All this very often do not see it in other community/groups.
So I hope that the community will grow but remains this great team spirit.
Q: If you weren’t a web designer/developer, what would you be?
An explorer! I am a very curious person, I have a constant need to fill my eyes and my mind to new places, new cultures, new smells, new feelings, listen to the stories of the people, to fill my “wealth of experience”. I have already planned to start my nomad life, so maybe I can also achieve this dream :).
Q: What websites do you visit daily?
Creative Child Theme and Facebook are definitely first. I always try to respond to support requests, comments or to my customers quickly, so they are definitely among the most visited.
I spend too much time to visit sites dedicated to Web Design, Web Development, almost every day I go to snoop on Medium an excellent source of great resources. Another site that I visit often and Product Hunt where you can discover new tools, resources and new products useful for my work and beyond.
I also created a personal feed on Feedly where I have selected some of the best sources of news and tricks, and this helps me to be up to date with minimal effort.
Q: If you were granted 3 Divi Theme wishes for feature enhancements or additions what would you wish for?
I’ll be honest, I have no requests of new features, but I would like all that already exists is improved and perfected.
For example I would like there to be more care of H1 tags, H2, H3, etc this is crucial for SEO, but some modules use the pre-made tags (Example: Fullwidth Header) for the title uses the default H1 tags, so if the same page using 2 or more modules “Fullwidth Header” you will have 2, 3, 4, 5 etc .. tags H1, and that’s not good.
I also wish that the CSS and JS code to be improved to avoid conflicts with third party plugins, and that there is a more careful use of the declaration: !important.
That’s it, I have no further requests.
Q: What are your 3 favorite WP plug-ins?
1. All In One WP Import / Export – great to move a site from one installation to another.
2. SEO by Yoast – is another must-have that is not lacking in any of my sites.
3. Wordfence Security great to increase the level of security
Q: Which website/s are you most proud to say, “I made that!”?
I like to say that the site I’m most proud of is the site that I have yet to be designed. Our work allows you to always have new ideas and new challenges and so I like the idea of being able to increase whenever the level of quality and of my projects. Of course my current site is among those I’m most proud of, I often many hours for its design and development, but I have worked with many other projects of which I am really proud..
Q: What does your average work day usually involve?
My working day starts classic at 7 am and ends at 7 / 7:30 pm, even though very often I work even after dinner, especially at this time where I am also working in parallel to my project.
Usually I spend the first hour to reading articles or a book, this is because in recent weeks I have been trying to consolidate a new healthy habit, that of reading. Before I devoted the first and last hour of the email read, now I dedicate to this activity only half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon.
After my hour of reading, I start working on the various tasks of the day (I use Asana to manage my projects), this method allows me to keep track of progress and avoid forgetting something important, such as the birthday of your girl :D..
To improve my productivity I eliminate any kind of distractions like Facebook or Twitter notifications, and focus only on work.
In summary, what I do is assign each moment of the day a precise task, in this way can lead to complete each task. Of course I’m not a robot, so sometimes I happen to upset this order, but usually this is my day classic.
Q: PC or Mac?
PC? What is a PC? 😀
Q: Apart from Divi, what other WP theme/s do you use regularly?
Currently 99% of my projects, I use Divi but in the past I have also used other frameworks like Genesis.
Q: How many cups of coffee do you drink in a day?
Here in Italy we do not have the habit of drinking a cup of coffee, we use small cups and usually I drink 1 in a day, but I can assure you that they have the strength of 10 mega cups.
Add a 795 x 300px banner image here. It can include absolutely anything you like and link to anywhere you like …
Q: What’s the best lesson you have learned (the hard way) when making websites?
There is a lesson in particular that upset the way I work, have been many and all useful for my path. I think the most important thing is to have a “Agile” mind because wrong is fine, but the important thing is to start immediately and learn from mistakes.
Q: How many people are on your team? If you work solo, do you ever collaborate?
I work alone, all I do is designed and developed only by me, that’s why I always say that 24 hours is not enough for me: D. I’m going to find collaborators, because I need to delegate some projects to devote to other aspects of my business, but it is not easy to find someone really reliable, so the search is very difficult.
Now for my new project, I’m working with one of the greatest experts in marketing and branding Italian, and this new partnership is very exciting because it allows me to improve some transversal knowledge.
Q: What do you do for fun outside of work?
In the little free time I have left, I love being with my dog and spend time with my friends and the people I love. I like to go mountain bike cooking.. In fact usually the order is: first cook and then I go to the mountain bike.. 😀
Q: If you could outsource 1 thing, what would it be? If you already outsource areas of your work, what part has been the most beneficial you?
No doubt the management of mail, ticket and social media. Are two activities that require a lot of time, and when you do more things together, you risk not do well either one. So I would like to focus again more on creating new products and new projects, and less to secondary activities, although very important.
Q: Apart from being a Divi guru, what else are you good at?
As a good Italian, I like to cook. Me and my partner we alternate, but on weekends the kitchen is my personal battlefield :D.
The pasta and the fish are on the first place of my best recipes, but sometimes I happen to invent even some meat recipe.
One other thing that I like is to write.
I love to write, think that when I was still in high school I wanted to become a journalist, then I have not followed this ambition but still have my passion for writing.
Now with various work commitments, the time to write is very little, but remaines a passion and I think that will never go away.
