Who wants to make some extra money working online using Divi?!
With many people still in lockdown across the world, more and more people are looking to make extra income from home.
There are many ways to make money online within the web design niche, and Divi offers several ways to get started.
This post will outline the top 10 ways to make money online with Divi.
Selling 3rd party Divi products.
1. Selling Divi child themes.
Divi Child Themes are WordPress Themes that inherit the functionality and styling of it the parent Divi theme. A Divi child theme can be used to customize the design, layout, or functionality of a Divi website and so it can be used as a way to sell a premade website package.
You can sell your child themes on your own website and generate traffic from Google and from referrals such as from the Child theme directory on divithemeexamples.com. Many child theme developers offer an affiliate program to encourage referrals with commissions usually set at around the 20% mark.
You can also apply to have your child themes listed on the newly opened official Elegant Themes Divi marketplace.
There are currently 139 Divi child themes in the marketplace, with prices ranging from $9 to $99. As a seller on the Elegant Themes marketplace, you will receive 70% of the sale price, with the remaining 30% going to Elegant Themes.
The top-selling Divi child theme on the Elegant Themes marketplace is an eCommerce theme from Divi Space that has made 50 sales in under two weeks, which will have generated the developer an income of $1365.
2. Selling Divi plugins and extensions
Divi Plugins are WordPress plugins that are developed specifically to work together with the Divi Theme or Divi Builder plugin.
Creating a plugin for Divi is not for beginners, but there is a full set of documentation on the Elegant Themes website for those with PHP and JavaScript knowledge.
As with Divi child themes, you can sell your plugins and extensions on your own website, or via the official Elegant Themes marketplace.
There are currently 56 Divi extensions listed in the Elegant Themes marketplace, with prices ranging from free to $99.
The top-selling Divi extension on the Elegant Themes marketplace is a multi-feature Divi plugin that has made 58 sales in under two weeks, which will have generated the developer an income of $3207.
3. Selling Divi layouts
Divi Layouts are pre-made modules, rows, sections, and pages for you to load directly from the Divi builder or via your Divi library and use on your Divi websites.
Divi comes with a vast number of free layout packs and even more are available to download from the Elegant Themes blog and 3rd party developers. There are almost 175 free Divi layout packs available within the DIvi Builder by default alone.
With so many high-quality free layouts available, selling Divi layouts may make it hard to generate a sustainable income.
There are currently 108 Divi layouts listed in the Elegant Themes marketplace, with prices ranging from free to $39.
The top-selling Divi layout on the Elegant Themes marketplace has made only 8 sales in just under two weeks, which will have generated the developer an income of $17.
Use your knowledge of Divi to make money
4. Selling Divi courses
Divi is a very intuitive WordPress theme to use, but as with anything, it will have a learning curve to tackle.
People who are new to Divi can use the official documentation to learn the various features of Divi, but many prefer to have a more structured learning experience.
Courses to learn Divi can be a great way to make some extra money, but there is a lot of free information already, so make sure your course is top-quality and priced competitively.
The most popular course for DIvi on Udemy is “How To Make A WordPress Website – Divi Theme Tutorial” and sells for $19.99 with close to 20,000 students. Many of these students will have enrolled at a discounted price, but it would still be a very profitable course for the creator.
There are several free Divi courses that rely on affiliate income to generate a profit for the creator.
5. Create and monetize a YouTube channel for Divi
There are many ways to make money with YouTube, but the most common is from the advertising revenue that YouTube will pay when your viewers see adverts while watching your videos.
You can also use a YouTube account to promote and sell your own Divi services or products or to generate affiliate income from links placed within the video description.
One of the most viewed YouTube videos for a Divi tutorial is “How To Create A WordPress Website | Divi Theme” from Ferdy Korpershoek which has close to 1 million views.
Ad revenue for YouTube videos varies, but an average YouTube pay rate would be between $0.01 and $0.03 for each advert viewed, which means you can make ~$3 to $5 per 1,000 video views.
6. Get paid to write blog posts about Divi
There are a number of DIvi-related blogs and many will pay writers to create useful articles for the Divi community.
Elegant Themes themselves take submissions for content writers on their blog too.
Articles published on the Elegant Themes blog receive a $250 fee, which is a very competitive rate. Standards are high, and you will need to follow all the editorial guidelines to be in with a chance of your article being published.
Typically, a content writer may charge $0.05 to $0.15 per word, making an average 1000-word article $50-150.
7. Affiliate marketing with a Divi blog
Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting a product or service offered by a 3rd party business.
DiviThemeExamples.com is an affiliate website that generates income from the Elegant Themes affiliate program and 3rd party Divi and WordPress products.
Elegant Themes have one of the best affiliate programs available with a 50% commission on all affiliate sales, including annual renewals and sales made via the Elegant Themes Divi marketplace.
As an affiliate, you will be paid via Paypal on time every month without having to chase up late payments.
With a 50% commission for Elegant Themes membership, you can earn $44.5 for every $89 annual membership sold or $124.5 for every lifetime membership sold at $249 via your affiliate link. You will also receive a 50% commission on the Elegant Themes fee for products sold in the marketplace, which is 15% of the product sale price.
3rd party Divi developers selling products and services will generally offer a 20% affiliate commission on all sales generated through your affiliate link.
DIY web design
8. Build a DIY Divi website for your own existing offline business
If you already have an offline business and do not yet have a website, these slow times are perfect to create an online presence.
Creating a DIY website with Divi can be quick & easy and will help you open your business to an otherwise untapped market. Doing the work yourself can save you thousands of dollars too.
There is a huge number of resources to learn Divi that range from official documentation, YouTube tutorials, and paid-for courses. Web design may not be your specialty, but it is never easier to build your website with Divi.
You will need to buy a domain name & hosting along with the Divi Theme, but this can cost under $150 to get set up for a year. The great thing about building a website for your own business is that it costs you very little and can generate a considerable return to your business.
Traditional web design services
9. Build or customize Divi websites for clients
Divi is a popular choice for web designers who build websites for clients and can be a great source of income, especially when coupled with an ongoing maintenance plan.
A Divi website can range from a quick 1-page brochure site to a full online eCommerce store with prices ranging from a few hundred dollars to several thousand.
Popular freelancer websites such as Freelancer and Upwork regularly have jobs advertised for freelance web designers & developers to work on Divi projects. Prices here may well be lower on these sites than in the USA as freelancers are bidding from across the globe, where living costs vary significantly.
Rates for Divi freelancing jobs can range anywhere from $20-150 per hour depending on a number of variables and prices for full Divi websites range from $500-3000+.
10. Selling Divi maintenance plans
You can make an extra ongoing income by selling Divi maintenance plans to clients you have already built a website for, or for new clients.
A maintenance plan is something that every WordPress website will need and for many web designers, it is what really makes a successful and profitable web design business.
A basic maintenance plan would include a regular update of the WordPress core files, WordPress & Divi plugins, and the Divi theme software. More expensive maintenance packages can also offer a full range of digital services to manage, monitor, backup, optimize, and run a Divi website.
A basic maintenance plan can generate from $20-50 per month per site, with more fully-featured plans increasing to hundreds of dollars.
Final Thoughts
Making money with Divi is possible in a number of different ways and some do not require a technical background to get started.
From creating a website for your own existing offline business to teaching others how to use the theme, Divi can be a great source of income in these tough times.

I have been making sites for clients for a while now but think i might try with some layouts or child themes and put them on the Divi marketplace.
Make sure they are top quality as there are so many already…
ideally, child themes should provide plenty of additional functionality, rather than just a few page designs with hover effects that won’t sell.
Layouts are very hard as you are unlikely to produce anything much better than the many free ones available within Divi itself. You can see from the sales in the marketplace that layouts are not particularly popular.
Good luck tho! 🙂
What’s the best practice about your own Divi license on Elegant Themes and the websites that you made for clients using Divi (and your key)? I mean, do you guys have some suggestions about how to address that on the agreement?
i would create a new key for each client so you can de-activate it as and wehn needed. see https://www.divithemeexamples.com/managing-your-divi-api-keys/
Ricardo’s point is very important and so much understated.
When you sell a website you build with Divi I wonder if you should point out the client that:
– they will need to pay you (andh how much?) for regular theme updates even if they don’t need you for maintenance, since you payed for your ET subscription;
OR
– they will have to buy the ET subscription themselves in order to update the theme.
This is so controversial. What’s your opinion about this?
Thank you.
I think generally most people will allow clients to continue to use their ET license key as long as they are also on a maintenance plan. The use of the license key is part of the maintenance plan which you should always be trying to up-sell with your websites.
All great information! I work as a full-time web designer using mostly the Divi Theme but wanted to see if there were better ways to get a reoccurring revenue. This gives me a lot of ideas to work with thank you.
